Retatrutide is an experimental injectable developed by American pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly. The treatment affects three gut hormones – GLP-1, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide and glucagon. Preliminary studies indicate it could help patients lose up to 25% of their body weight. Referred to as the “triple G”, the drug is being hailed digitally as the next Ozempic.
Medical Experts Express Worries
However, physicians and chemists have cautions that the distribution of what is still an unapproved medication in the United Kingdom is worrisome and could lead to users injecting products of unknown origin.
Several experts stated the demand for retatrutide could be connected to the increasing price of approved slimming treatments such as Mounjaro.

Marketing the unapproved drug on social media or messaging apps is illegal in the United Kingdom, as it is an unapproved drug that must not be marketed or distributed for personal consumption under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012.
Some content creators attempt to circumvent the rules by calling to the drug as a “research chemical” or describing it as “not for human consumption”. The substance is not a controlled substance, but promotion and distribution can still violate medicines, advertising, and customer regulations, potentially leading to penalties, legal action or prison.

According to TikTok, the platform has taken down problematic material and banned associated hashtags and query recommendations. The organization said it was committed to keeping the platform safe and allocating resources in enhancing enforcement strategies.

Within moments of joining one community, a vendor posted WhatsApp details, where the majority of purchases take place. The vendor sent an guidebook and guaranteed delivery within two days. When questioned whether the substance was authentic, one vendor said: “You can’t be sure.” Another shared a image of a supposed laboratory certificate. Not one asked about body mass, medical conditions or past usage.

Dr Crystal Wyllie of an online medical service connected the increase in demand to recent cost increases for approved slimming medications such as Mounjaro. “With costs increasing, individuals are using social media. But counterfeit treatments are extremely dangerous. You can’t be certain what’s inside or whether the environment they were produced in was clean,” she said.
Her team has already seen patients injured by personal administration from unverified suppliers. “We recognize the disappointment, but purchasing from Telegram or communication platforms is gambling with your well-being,” stated Wyllie. “These substances could be impure or improperly measured.”
